I usually like Nic Cage even when I know I shouldn't, but I just couldn't jive with his character. I knew the major twist long before I ever saw the film, that left the minor twist with Cage to be the only surprise that I think everyone in the audience predicted as soon as someone asked.

I still have no idea why Ridley Scott directed this and all things considered, I wish executive producer Robert Zemeckis had directed it instead. The film is what it is: it works, and yet doesn't quite rise to any great plateau of either filmmaking or insight.
