Review of Match Point (2005) by Greg L — 29 Jul 2010
For a thriller, it takes its sweet time getting going, with more than half the running time devoted to the setup, and Woody Allen's Americanism-heavy dialog sounds extremely stilted coming from the mouths of the mostly British cast.
The tone fluctuates between taut realism and melodrama as well, a problem exacerbated by the uneven performances of Rhys Meyers and Johansson. As crime movies go, it's certainly no "Fargo".
All that said, it does keep you watching until the end, so it does its job - something that can't be said of most of Allen's other recent efforts.
