Review of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) by Michael A — 01 Mar 2010
I unfortunately, saw this film at home. Though that is not always a bad thing. Home Theaters are great for a movie like this. Salt spray and smell of gunpowder is in the air after screening of this film.
Peter Weir is a very unappreciated director. To me this is 'Star Trek' on the ocean. The doctor a dear friend of the Captain but not always in agreement with political and social handling of the ship's crew.
Great action and not too 'over the top' explosions. Russell Crowe does is best work around the dinner table with his officers. I will always choose, "The lesser of two weevils.".
