Review of Mask (1985) by Nilufer R — 25 May 2009
The original is perfect, Great acting from both Stoltz and Cher. Has been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid. This movie made me "fall in love" with the music of Bob Seger, but they original wanted all Bruce Springstein songs in it.
So the director removed all the Seger songs and replaced them with the Springstein ones when this came out on DVD and IMO it totally ruins the movie, plus that song and dance part he added is horrible and I can see why it was cut out of the original.
I like Springstein as much as anyone but his songs don't create the same grit and mood the Seger ones do. If you can find the VHS version or a DVD version that isn't Directors Cut, watch that one cause I think the directors cut is awful.
