It's been 25 years since this film was released back in 1985 and I was there to see it opening weekend, with my parents. I picked this dvd up today at FoodCity for 5 bucks and must say that's darn near the best 5 bucks I've ever spent.

"Mask" tells the true story of Rocky Dennis, a teenage boy who has a strange disease~kind of like The Elephant Man~ and his relationship with his mom Rusty Dennis. It's based on a true story and I knew how it was going to end but this movie hasn't lost any of it's ability to move the viewer.

Eric Stoltz plays Rocky and Cher plays his hippie/biker chick mom Rusty and they both are magnificent. This was one of the best films of 1985 and it was completely snubbed come Oscar time. Cher would get her Oscar two years later for her work in "Moonstruck" but this is, in my opinion, Cher's best performance.

Stoltz is just as good and Sam Elliott is also excellent as Rusty's on-again, off-again boyfiend. This version has two scenes added that was not in the original release and also has the Bruce Springsteen score that was taken out of the film when it was originally released.

An 80s classic and a must have for any serious dvd collector. I'm certainly glad I found it. Directed by Peter Bogdanovich and released by Universal Pictures. Rated PG-13.
