Review of Mask (1985) by Bloodmarsh K — 12 Jul 2013
A beautifully constructed domestic drama about an adolescent going through the motions of puberty and coming of age with a distinct difference to his peers. Eric Stoltz is touching as protagonist Rocky Dennis, exhibiting a tender charm that allows him to connect to his audience, whilst Cher, as his flawed mother Rusty, delivers a raw performance that ranks as one of the best of her career.
Indeed, director Peter Bogdanovich evokes strong sincerity from his cast (Laura Dern is lovely as Rocky's first love and Dennis Burkley does so much with so little as the timid Dozer), resulting in a very heartfelt film.
