Something about this seemed to be off for me, most of all the truly abrupt ending (though if this was intentional for purposes beyond my knowledge I dont know). The way Sutherland and Gould let their characters hang and let loose with a fusilade of satirical wit in a rather macabre setting with subtlety and dignity is definitely worth commendation.
Ill forgive Altman for having such an agenda sheerly for the fact that he brings the quirks and antics out of the tale with such finese as to really forget the symbolism for a while and just enjoy the humor outright.
Kind of plays out like a more sophisticated older brother to Animal House set during a war overseas. And once again...Sutherland is great!
