Review of M*A*S*H (1970) by Ryan C — 06 Feb 2009
A very funny film with some great moments, but Catch-22 came out the same year, and I would select that as a far superior film. I like Altman's directing style, but the cacophany of overlapping dialogue that is inherent in its style I feel can be grating at times, and this film is only slightly satirical as opposed to Catch wallowing in the concept.
But credit should be given, for this film is really funny in depicting its story of the humorous moments a field hospital gets into during the Korean war. Donald Sutherland is great as Hawkeye, and the funeral and football scenes are great.
One shot in particular, where the dinner prior to the funeral is framed to mirror The Last Supper, was really awesome. A fun picture overall.
