Review of M*A*S*H (1970) by C F — 24 Mar 2009
A pretty revolutionary movie when you really think about it. You've got war, death, suicide, sexism, racism, and all sorts of stuff flying around, but the movie consistently maintains its identity as a slapstick comedy throughout.
So the resulting product is not only an entertaining comedy, but an oddly unique piece of satire as well. On top of that, you've got the overlapping dialogue and other techniques that Altman throws in to keep the movie just outside the parameters of the mainstream.
A true counterculture classic.
