Altman's major work is set in a Mobile Surgical Hospital of the army. Mash is an interesting reflection of the American growing distrust for institution, religion and the consensus culture in general which admirably mixed black comedy with crude and dramatic scenes of death and violence, most of which take place due to the thoughtlessness of the characters.

Filmed in that true and eccentric Altman style with low regards for the screenplay in favour of a most anarchic and chaotic atmosphere, the film sometimes feels like it lacks a plot, but is still an influential satirical vision that represents well the American culture and counter culture of its time.
