Review of Masculin Féminin (1966) by Berneta H — 29 Dec 2007
After I saw this film, I thought the rest of Godard would be this fun, spontaneous, and meaningful. I was wrong, but it doesn't matter. The awkward interview sequences are a window into the confused but nonetheless appealing minds of sixties French youth - and a nod to Rouch.
Stylish, but in a way you can relate to (unlike, say Weekend or Pierrot). Excellent performances from Leaud, Goya, her girlfriends, and Leaud's creepy comrade.
