Review of Mascots (2016) by Harrison R — 19 Nov 2016
One star for mildly entertaining.
What weakens this is that the satire "punches down". It is directed at weak, marginal, vulnerable impoverished characters, some of whom are victims of bullying, others are suffering from emotional health problems. Slapstick by drug and alcohol abusers is also losing its humor. The antics of sexual predators are not funny.
Major plot hole: One character's participation in the pageant is challenged because her team was formerly named "Squaws". However, another mascot who has been repeated suspended and banned from performances because of assaults including sexual assaults is allowed to participate unchallenged. Hilarious.
