Review of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994) by Sean N — 21 May 2012
It's sad that the original story is killed by this film. The story is pretty simple with a man named Frankenstein who wants to find a way to defeat death by science. He soon creates a monster and he is horrified by it and soon flees.
Now the monster is on the loose and what will possibly happen to it and what will it do? First the movie does follow some strong points from the original story, but it tries different methods and they are not good at all.
Whenever they change something the scene is very quick and doesn't hold any impact. There are good suspenseful parts in the book, but the movie starts to toss the original ideas out of the window when it comes closer to the end.
For the monster he is played by Robet DeNiro and he does good with the role, but the monster doesn't look that scary. He just looks like a normal man, but with many scars. It barely has any similarities to the monster in the book.
At least the story itself is still carried in the book and the message is there, but this movie fails to give the impact of the book. There are scenes that are too quick and some belong in a whole other movie and that is what kills the movie the most.
I recommend to read the book or watch another Frankenstein movie.
