Review of Mary Queen of Scots (2018) by B T — 10 Jan 2019
Although some may credibly consider this the vanity project of two talented actresses, it is also a costume drama with a deft touch woth plot points. This is a historically complex relationship is told simply and capably.
Director Rourke and writer Willimon clearly have a point of view, but it's applied gently and consistently, allowing Ronan and Robbie to be the kind of forces of nature these two women were. Recommended, particularly if one is willing to begin with lowered expectations.
