Review of Mary Queen of Scots (2018) by Mike L — 29 Dec 2018
Thinking I had a reasonable historical idea of this period, actions, and personages, I was confused through most of this movie as to what exactly was transpiring. The biggest question was why was the over-riding issue of religion, Catholic vs.
new Protestantism, so under talked about. There was also the schism in Scotland about a Catholic queen and newly Protestant country. As strong as Mary is shown, Elizabeth is shown to be indecisive and sympathetic to her cousing Mary.
(No where does it really tell how the two were related.) In the end after much bloodshed and Mary's execution, Mary's son became King James Vi of Scotland and James I of England and united Scotland and England.
(henry VIII was Mary's uncle making Elizabeth and Mary first cousins once removed).
