Review of Mary Queen of Scots (2018) by Julianna C — 28 Dec 2018
I was so excited to see this, and was extremely disappointed by it. I am a historical purist and I donï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)t believe that political correctness has a place in period dramas. A black man wouldnï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)t have held a prominent position in the English court in the 16th and 17th century! And an Asian woman wouldnï¿ 1/2(TM)t have been allowed to be a member of Elizabethï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s household! Also why is it that Elizabeth ages in this film, but Mary Queen if Scots doesnï¿ 1/2(TM)t?? Elizabeth held her under house arrest for 17 years! She was 45 when she died. I donï¿ 1/2(TM)t like the liberties taken with Darnley, Lucrezio or Bothwellï¿ 1/2(TM)s characters either. There was no record.
Of Darnley being gay, just a drunk and a.
Womanizer. There is proof that Bothwell and Mary.
Were lovers, and it is believed that both of them.
Had a hand in Darnleys death. I feel like looks wise.
Robbie fit the bill for Mary and Ronan fit the bill for.
Elizabeth, and maybe if they had swapped roles it.
Would have been more believable. As it stands.
Though both performers fell short of the women.
They were supposed to play. Mary was not a innocent victim. Mary was an ambitious, arrogant and impulsive schemer. They called Elizabethï¿ 1/2(TM)s rule the Golden age! She was shrewd and calculating not emotional and weak. She would never have sat back and made paper ribbon art projects while her counselors made all the decisions! Also Mary and Elizabeth never met. This movie had so much potential. What a disaster.
