It is so rare when a movie made for children, but transcends the genre to be actual film art. Mary Poppins is so much more than a film for children. Featuring a great musical score, skilled choreography and Julie Andrew's razor sharp and witty performance never falls into sappy sentiment.

And, while the special effects are dated -- they were done with such creativity and care -- that it has become an almost Surrealist-take on special effects. A film theory educated viewer will note dozens of shots and idea that have inspired a great number of amazing filmmakers.

Iconic and endlessly entertaining. I feel this film warrants the title of "cinematic masterpiece" -- the only flaw in this film is Dick Van Dyke's annoying accent, but even that has aged into the film in a way that it seems to enhance it.

Brilliant.
