One of the things that shocked me the most about revisiting Mary Poppins after so many years is how remarkably it holds up for more mature audience members. This is a family oriented film no doubt, but it's so well conceived in every sense, you'd have to be Satan not to enjoy it.
The characters are memorable, the music is unbelievable and the actors who bring them to life are perfect (Van Dyke's notorious accent aside). Mary Poppins isn't great because it works as a children's film, Mary Poppins is great because it ranks right up at the top with all the classic movie musicals.
It's the crowning achievement in Disney's live action treasury and one of the most wonderful films ever made. "Practically perfect in every way".
