Review of Mary Poppins (1964) by Stan D — 04 May 2014
A great musical starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. She is a magical nanny who tames the unruly rich kids of a banker, and ends up teaching and bringing joy to the whole family. Inspirational, highly entertaining, and touching, for adults and children.
One of the best soundtracks ever, one of which won the oscar for best song. Irresistible. When Walt Disney first asked Julie Andrews to star in this film, she turned him down, because she was pregnant.
Walt told her, "We'll wait for you." Jane Darwell, the bird woman, played Mrs. Merriweather in a little film that opened 25 years earlier called, "Gone With The Wind." The best movies are entertaining and inspiring, which makes Mary Poppins among the best movies ever made.
