Review of Mary and Max (2009) by Brandon H — 12 Feb 2011
It's a little dry and exhausting to watch, but I enjoyed a few moments and a few lines. Their relationship is amusing, but not much more. I don't agree that it's an "emotionally resonating" film; it's a bit too amateurish to reach through to me at that level.
I got tired of some of the repetitive ideas and descriptions, and the writing wasn't quite as clever as it thought it was, or as it wanted to be. Nonetheless, the visual world is certainly engaging, and it was a refreshing change of pace from the recycled, big-money animated stuff for kids that comes out like clockwork every 6 months.
