Review of Mary and Max (2009) by Joey K — 29 Jul 2011
I very much enjoyed this movie. Mary and Max yet again proves that "animated film" does not restrict its audience to children. The film is imaginative in its meditation on some of life's crises.
It's often cute, clever, and cringe-worthy in the same scene. Both Mary and Max live in simultaneous states of lonely curiosity; each is the other's closest friend (only separated by a few thousand miles or so).
Friends can help us understand the craziness of life, love, and happiness. Throughout the ups, the downs, and everything in between, Mary and Max reminds us that we're not alone in our journey.
