Review of Mary and Max (2009) by A.d. O — 23 Nov 2011
I tend to find clay-mation creepy. From "Gumby" to "The PJs" to "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Creepy. But I gave this film a whirl because the story intrigued me, and I am glad I did.
This dramedy is quirky, touching and well-told. While the children's storybook style of narration is at times awkward, the animation is clever and in certain moments profound. This film finds the right odd tone for the telling of this story.
