Review of Marvin's Room (1996) by Mohammed G — 24 Jul 2006
I watched this film purely for the stars that were in it. Who wouldnt want to watch a film with Meryl Streep, Diane Keaten, De Niro and that other guy?
Its a really odd film from the start and I can see how that might put people off. The relationships (or non-relationships) between the family members seems very strange and overly comical considering the situation. However, as the movie progresses, as you learn more about these characters; what makes them who they are, then the film becomes much more intresting and heart touching.
The development and exploration of the character 'Hank' (played by diCaprio) is really intresting and enjoyable to watch, as well as the relationship between the two sisters. Nothing much happens in the film, and the events themselves are never resolved, but its not a story about what happens, its a story about the characters and their relationships; which are very much resolved.
