Review of Martyrs (2015) by Paul D — 10 Jul 2016
Okay so, I rented this movie from Redbox to watch with my friend for a scary movie sleepover. I am incredibly disappointed in this movie. First of all, no one lived. Second of all, they died for this purposes that you never even know what exactly it is.
Third, it's really confusing and kind of boring until the last 30 minutes. The movie is an hour and a half for reference. Also the main girl saw these monsters but this was all a fabrication of her mind due to extreme trauma.
Personally, I felt so offended by this movie because they were using her trauma which manifested into psychosis as this religious thing of enlightenment. Mental health is very serious. It's not something people choose to have and hers was completely thrust on her due to "religious enlightenment".
It's not a horror film, it is a thriller at best. The only horror part of it is when they peeled the skin off the main girls back (the one with mental health issues) to make her like Jesus. That was disrespect on another level because Jesus is a sacred being in the religion they were trying to create, but I'm pretty sure a good Christian wouldn't torture young girls.
Overall, this movie was terrible and I wanted to get the directors emails to complain to them personally, but I couldn't find them.
