Review of Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) by Zurino O — 22 May 2012
Sean Durkin wrote and directed this drama about a young woman suffering from delusions and paranoia after returning to her sister from an abusive communal style of living with cult members. With a mesmerizing debut performance from Elizabeth Olsen and safe acting from John Hawkes, Sarah Paulson, and Hugh Dancy - this movie delivers whatever was possible to deliver: excitement, distinction, and a journey inside the mind of brainwashed individual.
If you love smart movies which do not use too many words to explain things - this is my recommendation! Vibrant and constantly changing tempo while switching between different times, this movie captures the audience while satisfying the critics.
Excellent psychological drama with bite!
