Review of Married Life (2008) by Matthew G — 27 Sep 2008
Someone, somewhere, sometime, labeled this movie as a comedy and that questionable description somehow ended up on the box, somewhat skewing my already low expectations. Besides a half-hearted thrust at a joke through the form of a repeating line used throughout the movie, this film was devoid of jokes.
It was instead a haven for acting that people may herald as "accurate" and "first-rate" as a depiction of 1940's life, but was really just boring, wooden acting in a film about a worn-out subject that covered no new ground.
Not even the soft coos of Pierce Brosnan's charming narration could save this yawn-worthy portrayl of (brace yourself, this is a mond-blowingly original concept!) people who are married and not in love.
The ending didn't even satisfy me, as I was praying for some character, any character to die in some manner and satisfy my desire to wreak terrible, wrathful revenge on this film. Instead, eveyone lived happly ever after and the only moral I gleaned from the story was, "Pierce Brosnan is a sexy beast of a man and will shanghai any woman he desires.
".
