Review of Married Life (2008) by Aidan H — 26 Mar 2009
One of the benefits of the cheap store DVD is coming across little gems like this. Director Sachs carves us an intimate portrayal of the twisted paths that lie within marriage and infidelity and does so with a style unseen since the time the film is set in.
Like Double Indemnity with laughs, its engrossing portrait showcases the strengths of its cast (notably Chris Cooper's) and adds a touching and human ending to the murderous intentions that precede it.
Extra kudos to the design department for a intoxicating evocation of the era. Recommended.
