Review of Married Life (2008) by Suzanne S — 21 Mar 2010
Plodding, flat, pretentious. We rented it from Netflix because it promised to be a 1940s period piece and a modern film noir. It takes more than clothes and hair to recreate a period, and more than melodrama to qualify as a film noir.
There is none of noir's sense of the basically decent person trapped by fate or of the decent into darkness that begins with a single fatal decision. And the plot is as nonsensical as the summary makes it sound.
Thankfully the film makers didn't go with any of their contrived, heavy-handed "alternate endings.".
