Mark of the Devil was torture porn long before the term ever existed. Loosely based on actual accounts (which is debatable considering how many of them all share the same similarities) it treads a path similar to where AIP/Tigon/Amicus had already gone before. Still, it achieves some modicum of success at relating its story in a straightforward, unerring, gritty fashion.

But ultimately it's this viewer's opinion that it's not quite as good as it could have been due in large part by an abrupt, blunt ending which is the last impression one is left with.
