Review of Maria Full of Grace (2004) by Nowhere G — 10 Jan 2010
Impressive movie, especially for a debut. It's a shame Catalina Sandino Moreno hasn't done anything since this. She's refereshingly unflashy and honest. The story is also riveting in how it plays out, from beginning to end.
Something that sets this movies above others is the attention to detail of everyday life- the dance at the beginning, the cousin staying with the sister, the other people on the plane. It's these kinds of things that make indie films so worthwhile and affecting.
