Review of Margot at the Wedding (2007) by Julie K — 31 Dec 2008

This is the kind of movie that perpetuates nothing but negativity in the viewer and fuels the kind of dysfunctional attitude towards families. The spectator longs to align themselves with someone in the film, but there is no one, not even Claude, who saves the spectator from superimposing onto their only family relationships the negativity that this family exudes.

These kinds of films are simply selfish creations of a director/writer who feel they have to work something out and wants the rest of us to see it. Baumbach is simply a one-trick pony and really needs to branch out to see if he can make something that doesn't focus on insufferable family dynamics.
