Review of Margin Call (2011) by Eric G — 07 Feb 2012
The acting convincingly and soberly delivers a story that illustrates both the dynamics and the detachment of the financial community as it prepared to deal with the early hours of the 2008 financial collapse.
The acting is all compelling, especially from Quinto, Spacey, Irons, and to a lesser extent, Bettany, with all the characters showing men at different stages of their careers in the same firm. Chandor's script is definitely economical and on-point.
The natural presentation of the characters and the sharp, cold, and modern cinematography allowed me to fully immerse myself in the tense, apocalyptic, yet sober urgency of the moment. The film also manages to address the national qualms about Wall Street without being so bluntly message-centered or as cartoonish as Oliver Stone's Wall Street.
