Review of Margin Call (2011) by Kevin M — 17 Mar 2012
A very slow and deliberate movie that definitely would not appeal to everyone. The subject of the movie is is kind of boring, if not off putting, to us "common" folk. Basically, a trading firm finds a major error in it's books, and tries to figure out a way to rectify the problem.
That's it. It's all about the back and forth between a lot of great actors in great roles. Seeing Jeremy irons and Kevin Spacey together almost makes the movie in itself. The movie exudes an underlying tenseness right from the get go.
Even without the usual manipulative soundtrack. Music is actually very sparingly used here, which adds to the feeling. It really IS a great movie, which I highly recommend. Just be prepared for something a bit different from the norm.
