Review of Margin Call (2011) by Tim C — 30 Mar 2012
First off i'd heard alot of great things about this film to start off with. It didn't disappoint me at all. Starting with a deserving original screenplay oscar nom for writer/director J C Chandor.
This film is directed perfectly to his own script. Performances throughout the film are really well played and certainly gave me a sense of the hirachy of a investment bank such is depicted in this film.
Of note, in particular I found Kevin Spacey as Sam Rogers really compelling as he's the guy who must balance his devotion to the firm but also has a conscience. Zachary Quinto is also really good as the worker who puts the pieces together as to what we know as the global finiancial crisis.
Also I thought the casting of Jeremy irons as the top dog was spot on. He plays a real slimey character. But it's the aussie Simon Baker and brit Paul Bettany who are really the people who should be held responsible for the huge, huge castrophe that ensued.
These people didn't care what they were doing and probably still don't. It's not like these people were doing anything real important. In this world even the good guys do bad things.
