Review of March of the Penguins (2005) by Martha W — 20 Nov 2009
When I saw March of the penguins in the theater I was kind of confused. This movie was greatly reviewed, and I didn't see what all the fuss was about. I thought it was actually kind of boring.
For me, this documentary could have just as easily been on the discovery channel. Why they took it to the big screen is beyond me. I don't know, I guess I was thinking it was going to be something different, and exciting. The only thing different about it, was that Morgam Freeman narated it.
Sure, there was some great video footage, and the story of how the penguins live, and the whole family circle thing was interesting. But to pay for a movie ticket to see it, just seemed like taking it a bit too far.
I have seen quite a few documentaries about animals, and I have seen better. Like the documentary of the men who raised a big cat, and every attempt at setting this animal free, it allways returned to them, at one point even bringing back it's newly born cubs. Or, nearly starving to death, because it waited for them to return, at one attemp at trying to make the cat self reliant. I'm pretty sure it was a lion.
Great story.
