Review of Marathon Man (1976) by Arseniy V — 07 Dec 2007
The structure of this film is a simple, near-primitive one, but that is where the simple and the primitive end. It doesn't really try to sell you anything. No simple characters, no easily identifiable emotions, little if any regurgitation of any kind.
Instead, it's infused with profoundly genuine, yet subtle detail. An antique shop aroma of real human experience. Through and through. And this allows it to reach deeper than any amount of frivolous emotion jerking could ever accomplish.
