Review of Marathon Man (1976) by Fraser H — 12 Feb 2010
Not a biopic about an Olympic athlete, but a gripping political thriller with more nerve-jangling scenes than some of the modern offerings. Dustin Hoffman, Roy Scheider & Marthe Keller are all brilliant, but the movie is remembered for Laurence Olivier, the embodiment of evil as Nazi profiteer Szell.
The dentistry torture scene is an iconic scene of motion picture history. My only criticism is the unsatisfactory ending.
