Review of Maps to the Stars (2014) by Alistair L — 29 Sep 2014
The brutal ending made me gasp. Loved Julianne Moore, who plays neurotically trashy so well. The film is cleverly constructed with two story arcs - like joining the dot to dots to see how they will collide in Hollywood's melting pot - there's plenty of hallucinating going (I see dead people).
One of the best turns was from youngster Evan Bird, he's instantly dislikeable as a precocious Brat superstar, but he pulls off the cocky swagger - superb ... and oh ... Carrie Fisher pops up in a cameo.
It won't be a movie you'll love the characters are borne to be disliked - but that's the point of this poke versus Hollywood life.
