The dance, the music, the politics, the history, the poverty, the hardship, the determination, the cultural impact, the love, the inner struggle, the realisation... everything is half-arsed and uninspiring.
With such a rich resource of material, this film grasps very little of anything. Most of the time it's disappointingly dull. Stick with the book; this is no Billy Elliot or To Live.
