A brilliantly constructed and beautiful story about one man's existance and rise to fame as a world class ballet dancer.

The film follows Li Cunxin's journey from a peasant in Mao's Cultural Reveloution who is hand-picked to become a dancer for China; representing his country in the USA Li finds solace and love and doesn't want to return to China.

He fights for his right to remain in America dancing and as a result is banished from returning to his homeland and seeing his family.

The dance scenes in the film feel so realistic and a are captured with beauty and class which add a feeling of realism to the movie.

A climatic and touching finale make Mao's Last Dancer a heartwarming movie experience.
