Review of Mao’s Last Dancer (2009) by Rita W — 05 Sep 2010
This movie proves once again that without art, we may as well perish. There are those among us who must perform and create and there are those who must watch, transfixed while the artist transforms not just himself but everyone who comes in contact with him.
While the story of piety is moving, it is the ballet, the dance that changes everything! Li's strength comes not just from the power in his legs and arms, that too common, but indeed his soul..he prostrates before us and in our shame, we witness a miracle.
