Review of Mao’s Last Dancer (2009) by Riley H — 23 May 2011
What could have been an excellent film (certainly it's a compelling story) is rendered not so excellent by some very odd directorial choices, including seemingly random slo-mo, and a bizarre pace which spends ages getting to the conflict and then not so much time in resolving it.
But there are effective moments. It certainly isn't bad or anything like that.
