Review of Maniac Cop (1988) by Lady D — 22 Jul 2007
Eight years after Maniac, Lustig delievered another Manhattan slasher film with "Maniac" in the title. New York appears just as seedy, but this time the emphasis is on comedy, and camp both largely delivered by Bruce, Campbell, veteran of the preceding Evil Dead films.
Manhattan, and greater NYC are so perfect for slasher films, that it is a shame more don't get made there. Lustig seems to be the king of New York slasher films, sadly, because I think this one and Maniac are his only two.
In fact, horror in general is rather uncommon for NYC. For the most filmed city in the world, it is amazingly under-represented in the horror genre.
