Review of Maniac (2012) by Gil M — 12 Jun 2013
If you thought Elijah Wood was creepy in Sin City, wait until you see him in this. This is probably one of the most twisted, demented and graphically realistic horror films I've seen in a while. The gore effects and some of the kills are so realistic and gruesome, they look like they came right out of a snuff flick.
Even though it's shot in a cool POV style and accompanied by a Giorgio Moroder-esque score, there are a lot of artistic touches to admire, but it's so bleak and dark, you're basically just watching a serial killer brutally murder women for 90 minutes.
It's definitely an acquired taste and NOT for the squeamish.
