Review of Maniac (2012) by Brian S — 16 Sep 2017
I never saw the original Maniac from 1980, but it was supposed to be a low-budget, exploitative, slasher film, and a gritty one too. And as far as horror remakes go, this one is actually quite different, especially since 95% of the movie is the POV of the serial killer, which I found innovative.
Some might find this film too be to brutal and violent, and too disturbing, but if you can stomach that kind of flick, you may just enjoy it, it brings you into the demented world of a serial killer. In my opinion, it's a horror film that deserves more than the small recognition it deserves.
I definitely agree, it's a fucked up movie, but it's a noble one, and Elijah Wood does a great job on portraying the role of the killer. Recommended !!
