Review of Maniac (2012) by Ruby H — 01 Mar 2014
This is a remake of the 1980 low budget cult classic of the same title. I haven't watched that yet but this feels very much like a super-stylized 21st century update of all those 70s and 80s Italian (and American) Nasties.
There's plenty of gore here and increases as we approach the ending. Frodo is awesome but Anna not so much so and that's too bad because if we could only relate a bit more the conclusion would have a bigger impact.
That's about the only thing I consider as a disappointment. Everything is well done, including music score, soundtrack, camera work (I didn't think I'd like a POV movie that's not found-footage.
) Another think, I never considered giallo as particularly misogynistic but his one seems to push it quite far. But it's only a movie, and a very cool one too.
