Review of Maniac (2012) by Ben A. V — 27 Apr 2014
Truly, this is better than you might reasonably expect.
Elijah Wood is a surprisingly good choice for the title role. He appears so timid you can believe those victims he meets first would see him as no kind of a threat till it was too late.
And without your necessarily feeling sorry for him, it ends with an illustration of someone who feels empathy for none.
But it's also one of those movies where the question at least as much as "was it well made" is "was it worth making?".
Your answer to that will depend upon how much psych you like with your slash, and your tolerance for gore.
Personally I like a lot of the former, but found myself closing my eyes during the latter.
