Review of Maniac (1980) by Chris D — 31 Jan 2009
There is more to this film than initially meets the eye. Yes, it's a low budget slasher flick, BUT...it's also a very thoughtful and surprisingly well-acted examination of a twisted mind and what might be going on in there and why.
Personally, I thought the creepiest scenes were the ones in which Joe Spinell engaged in imaginary conversations with his dead mother. They were very telling as to how he came to be in the situation he was.
Plus it has Caroline Munro in it and she's as beautiful as ever.
