Review of Maniac (1980) by Douglas L — 11 Nov 2011
Seedy splatter flick with no genuine plot. Credit Spinell with a truly off-the-wall performance; he's the best thing about this movie.
Notorious for some of its more shocking gore effects (specifically Savini's own exploding head via shotgun blast, which sadly occurs way too early). Has the occasional flourish (including a gonzo nightmare sequence towards the end) but overall it's fairly turgid. They certainly don't make them this grimy anymore.
