Review of Manhunter (1986) by Jon G — 17 May 2008
Its classic Michael Mann, right to the heart. Everything from the dialogue to the soundtrack seems to share the same rhythms with the other classics like Heat and Collateral.
William Petersen's performance is outstanding, and whilst Brian Cox is not Anthony Hopkins, he is impressive as Lector.
Looking at the two versions, there are parts where Norton or Hopkins may have pulled off a better scene, but they're both very close. Overall, I think I give the edge to Manhunter, purely for Mann's skilful cinematography.
